The challenge

As part of a broader digital transformation begun in 2018, Dunelm moved to a modern cloud data platform and looked to replace its in-house identity system. Maintaining identity internally required significant specialist staffing.

The solution

Dunelm replaced its in-house identity system with Auth0, initially for customer authentication and later for machine-to-machine authentication, rate limiting, and authenticating third-party supplier API integrations.

Security is a really good commodity we can get from Auth0 rather than building it ourselves.

The results, in context

Dunelm estimates that partnering with Auth0 saves it from needing an entire team of eight to ten dedicated security experts and developers. The company treats security as a commodity provided by Auth0 rather than something it builds and maintains itself.
