Case Study: Land Information New Zealand saves 100+ hours monthly managing APIs with Tyk
Key results
The challenge
Toitū Te Whenua Land Information New Zealand, a government department, builds microservices consumed by surveyors, property lawyers, and the public through around 50 APIs. Before Tyk, teams relied on proxy generators and manually copying and pasting APIs, which was inefficient, drained developer time, and increased security risk.
The solution
Land Information New Zealand deployed Tyk as a self-managed installation hosted on AWS in Sydney, using it across production, non-production, pre-production, and development environments. It made use of Tyk's role-based access control for user management alongside API analytics.
“Tyk has enabled us to save two hours per API by reducing the complexity of our processes and streamlining our maintenance needs. That's 100 hours saved, which is good for us in dollar terms.”

The results, in context
Replacing manual processes with Tyk Gateway saved two hours per API across 50 APIs, for 100 hours saved each month and significant cost savings. Peak API traffic reaches 40,000 requests per minute, serving 80 developers and 13,000 end users, while centralizing the API ecosystem sped up the product release cycle.
