The challenge

As one of the world's leading fintechs, Klarna sought to migrate its card program to a modern, API-first issuer processor while scaling globally. The migration spanned Sweden, Germany, and the UK and covered both debit and credit products in multiple currencies, with zero customer downtime treated as non-negotiable from the start.

The solution

Klarna moved its program to Marqeta's cloud-native platform using a phased migration with BIN segmentation, staged rollouts, and a validation pilot. Marqeta's migration engine transferred PCI card data, tokens, PII, security keys, and BIN information, supported by on-site collaboration in Stockholm and joint troubleshooting sessions.

It was a huge investment, but worth it. Marqeta's partnership made us more confident in a smooth migration.
