Case Study: DoorDash logs a 30% increase in queries while keeping Snowflake cost constant with Sigma
Key results
The challenge
DoorDash ran into dashboard management and scalability issues, with too many dashboards needing SQL optimization and traditional BI tools posing performance and connectivity limits. Costly per-person licenses limited access, making it difficult to share dashboards and reports with a wider audience. In 2021 the business intelligence team began searching for a platform that could build a self-service analytics environment and democratize dashboard creation.
The solution
After a competitive evaluation, DoorDash selected Sigma, in part because it did not have enough data engineers to model and prepare data for all end users. The BI team led the implementation and migration, rebuilding over 5,000 existing dashboards in Sigma and onboarding users at scale with training videos, tutorials, and tailored content. Sigma's onboarding team worked alongside DoorDash through the migration.
“The amount of collaboration with Sigma has been really refreshing, and it's something that we brag about to other vendors.”

The results, in context
DoorDash onboarded over 30,000 users to Sigma and reported a 25-30% increase in queries while keeping Snowflake costs constant by reducing the time, cost, and complexity of writing custom SQL. Adoption was high, with 92% of creators active within the previous 30 days, and 12,000 internal users able to access live data and edit dashboards for approval. The enterprise and operations excellence teams use Sigma to make data-driven decisions.
