Case Study: NetApp drives a 200%+ jump in data-glossary usage with Collibra
Key results
The challenge
NetApp, a Fortune 500 global technology company with more than 10,000 employees, had data dictionaries and definitions scattered across business units, and some content was not even written down. To foster accuracy and consistency, its enterprise data management team needed a single, accessible business glossary and had to drive employee awareness and adoption of it.
The solution
Working with Collibra since 2011, NetApp built and evolved a centralized business glossary governed through a federated model spanning more than 160 data stewards across its business lines and operating units. To publicize the glossary and make it easy to reach, the team embedded a 'find a definition' widget on the corporate homepage.
“One of the things we did was to implement a 'find a definition' widget on our corporate homepage, which drove up usage by more than 200%.”

The results, in context
After adding the 'find a definition' widget to its corporate homepage, NetApp saw glossary usage climb by more than 200%. The federated program, run with over 160 data stewards, standardized definitions so different business units could use consistent terms and discover more datasets. NetApp has partnered with Collibra on the program since 2011.
